Hotel Updates: North Island Seychelles

North Island Seychelles Supports World Oceans Day 2016

This week saw the 14th World Oceans Day - a global day of ocean celebration and collaboration for a better future. This year's theme was "Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet" with events held around the world to promote the prevention of plastic pollution in our oceans. Plastic at sea is a threat not just to individual marine creatures like turtles, but also the health of entire ecosystems.

This is a cause that is very close to North Island's heart, and they were particularly proud to be named as the Energy Globe Awards National Winner for Seychelles. This award was in recognition of their drive to reduce the consumption of bottled water on the Island, by installing Vivreau water purification technology and offering guests fresh drinking water in reusable glass bottles.

This initiative has resulted in an 84% reduction in bottled water consumption on North Island, representing some 272kg of plastic saved in 2015 alone – that's over a quarter of a tonne less plastic waste in the world!
