Swimming pool at Acajou Beach Resort goes chlorine-free
The Acajou Beach Resort on the Seychelles island of Praslin has introduced a new chlorine-free water treatment for its swimming pool, in a further bid to reduce the hotel’s environmental impact. The “Nu Pure” water treatment by Pace Seychelles is an aqueous solution, containing a balance of ionised minerals, that destroys algae and bacteria in pool water.

Earth Hour: Going Dark to Shine a Light on Conservation
On the 25th of March, WWF's Earth Hour rolled out across the world; from big bustling cities to secluded private islands, over 3000 locations in 187 countries across seven continents went dark to shine a light on climate change. North Island switched off the lights on a clear sky, full of stars, and our guests were invited to a candlelit dinner on the beach in front of the Piazza. Bonfires, tiki torches, lanterns and tealight candles set the scene for a magical evening in recognition of conservation.

Air Seychelles Launches Flights to Durban in South Africa
Air Seychelles, the national airline of the Republic of Seychelles, has launched flights from Seychelles to Durban, its second destination in South Africa. The inaugural service landed at King Shaka International Airport yesterday afternoon at 2.50 pm, where guests were greeted by a troupe of traditional Zulu dancers and a group of government, airport and tourism and trade representatives headed by Mr. Sibusiso Myeza, Acting Head of Department of KwaZulu-Natal for Economic Development, Tourism and Developmental Affairs.

Air Seychelles welcomes home the 2nd new Twin Otter aircraft – Isle of Farquhar
Air Seychelles has recently welcomed the second new Twin Otter DHC-6 400 aircraft into the Air Seychelles domestic fleet in 2017, now bringing the total number of Twin Otters to six aircraft. The aircraft is named Isle of Farquhar, after the group of outer islands lying 700km away from Mahé.
Changes to Carry-On Luggage Regulations for Travellers to the USA
From Saturday, 25 March, travelers to the US from Dubai International airport cannot carry any electronic device larger than a cell phone or smartphone, excluding medical devices, in the aircraft cabin. Travelers must pack these electronic devices in their checked-in baggage.
Fregate Island's ecology team members recently found a baby terrapin crossing the road. At only 3.1 cm long and 2.5 cm wide, this baby is a Seychelles Black Mud Terrapin which is critically endangered according to IUCN, mainly due to loss of habitat. It is one of the most precious species on Fregate Island, living in freshwater and can be seen in one of the island’s sixteen ponds.

Le Duc de Praslin Hotel & Villas has recently installed a new PV (Photovoltaic System) in its drive to reduce its carbon footprint and reduce its total dependence on electricity supply from the local utilities company.
The installation was carried out over a period of two weeks by Energy Solutions Seychelles and the system will offset 56.2 metric tons of carbon dioxide this equals to 130 barrels of crude oil not being consumed to produce electricity.

Seychelles Carnaval 2017: Dates Re-Scheduled for October
The 'Carnaval International de Victoria,' also known as the Seychelles Carnaval, has been moved to a later date this year - in October.
Since its inception in 2011, the Seychelles Carnaval has been traditionally held in April, but as of this year it will now be incorporated as part of the annual Creole Festival held in October each year.
Air Seychelles Expands Etihad Airways Codeshare Agreement to Japan
Air Seychelles, the national airline of the Republic of Seychelles, has expanded its codeshare agreement with Etihad Airways to two cities in Japan. The new deal will see Air Seychelles place its “HM” code on the daily Etihad Airways service between Abu Dhabi and Nagoya, via Beijing, as well as the daily service to Narita airport in the capital of Tokyo.

Seven Baby Aldabra Tortoises Released into the Wild, Four New Hatchlings Found
Over the course of December and January, North Island released all of the baby Aldabra Giant Tortoises into the wild. At the same time, we have been very lucky to find four new hatchlings in December, for which they have built a brand-new pen attached to the Environment Office.
As the Seychelles becomes an increasingly popular fishing destination, a deeper concern for our marine ecosystem arises. Bird Island’s priority as an eco-lodge is to maintain the natural environment of the Island and its surrounding marine life and a manner in which we work towards this is by encouraging sustainable tourism practices.
