Hotel Updates: Hilton Seychelles

Hilton Seychelles Celebrates Global Week of Service

The three Hilton properties in the Seychelles, Hilton
Northolme Resort & Spa, Hilton Labriz Resort & Spa and Double Tree by Hilton Resort & Spa – Allamanda, will be hosting their Global Week of Service event on 25th July 2018, a day dedicated to celebrating Hilton’s commitment to the local community.

During Global Week of Service, Hilton team members across the globe host events to address key challenges faced by their local community, from local employability and  community investment, to conservation and sustainability. Global Week of Service is part of  Hilton’s Travel with Purpose corporate responsibility initiative, which focuses on ensuring the company has a positive environmental and social impact on every community in which it operates.

The day will kick off with a series of inspirational talks aimed at local students, introduced by Adrian Skerrett, a British conservationist who now resides in the Seychelles. VIP guest speakers will participate in talks focusing on women in leadership, inspiring future generations, and sustainability, with a particular emphasis on Hilton’s efforts to preserve the Seychellois coral reef. Attendees will include VIP delegates, Jan van der Putten, Vice President of Operations, Africa & Indian Ocean, Hilton and local students.

The second part of the day will focus on Hilton’s efforts to preserve the local environment, in particular the coral reef. Guests will visit the coral reef nursery at Hilton Northolme Resort & Spa, which was implemented to help coral reef recover from major eco-disasters, including the 2004 tsunami, the global bleaching event in 2016 and ongoing challenges of climate change. The degradation of the coral has knock-on consequences on local communities who rely on the area for fishing and food, making it crucial to build its resilience in preparation for future incidents.

Guests will have the chance to see the coral nursery for themselves and explore the reef and the 650-metre snorkeling trail with Chloé Pozas, a marine biologist and member of Hilton’s Marine Conservation Society Seychelles team.

The day will be a celebration of Hilton’s ongoing efforts to have a positive social and environmental impact on Mahé and Silhouette Island and will highlight the properties  current projects. Along with the coral nurseries, other ongoing initiatives include the desalination and bottling of water at Hilton Labriz Resort & Spa; the introduction of a kitchen garden to reduce energy and water consumption on Silhouette Island; and the introduction of a hydroponic farm at Hilton Labriz Resort & Spa.

Speaking of the event, Andre Borg, general manager of Hilton Labriz Resort & Spa, has said: “At Hilton, we are committed to having a positive impact on every community in which we operate. Global Week of Service is an opportunity for us to mobilise our teams and celebrate the work our Team Members do throughout the year to protect and enhance local environments”
